MONTEVIDEO -- Clarice Irene Gilbertson, 87, of Montevideo died Thursday at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Alzheimer's Association and Hospice.

She was born Feb. 6, 1919, in rural Watson to George and Alice (Harback) Gruchow. She often lived with her grandmother in Watson to attend school in Montevideo. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1936 and from Windom Teacher's College in 1938. She taught country school from 1938 to 1942.

She married Omar Uveness in 1942. Omar died a few months later. She attended United States Army cadet nurse's training at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

She married LeRoy Gilbertson. They moved in 1949 to Rosewood Township where they farmed for 23 years. They moved to Montevideo in 1971. She worked with the Head Start Program, as a teacher's aide at Sanford Elementary School, and then at Kinder Kare for more than 10 years.

She is survived by her children: Debra (and Joe) Mace of Montevideo, Steven (and Linda Skogrand) Gilbertson of Logan, Utah, Kent (and Mary) Gilbertson of Rosemount; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister: Marie Weckwerth.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, two sisters and one brother.
