MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Quarterback Matthew Muenchow led his top-ranked Glencoe-Silver Lake Panthers to a 50-26 victory over DeLaSalle in the Class 3A Championship Saturday.
Muenchow threw for four touchdowns, rushed for another, kicked four extra points, filled in at safety and punted twice. He finished 7-for-10 for 203 yards and rushed for 93 more. Running back Dusing Jurek had four touchdowns as well, two rushing and two receiving.
The win solidified the Panthers as team to beat in Class 3A. They finished No. 1 in the AP regular season poll, outscored their three Prep Bowl opponents 98-43 and captured their fourth state title since 2000.
The game's biggest moment came late in the first half, with Glencoe-Silver Lake leading 20-6. DeLaSalle was driving down the field, looking to get within one touchdown before halftime.
Linebacker Steven Slater intercepted a pass from Islander quarterback Michael Van Leer with under two minutes left, setting up a Panther touchdown with 28 seconds remaining. Instead of a one touchdown lead, the Panthers headed to the locker room up 22.
