SUNBURG -- Two separate Land Stewardship Project classes on holistic management of farmland will be offered July 13 and 14 at the Sunburg Community Center. The July 13 class will cover biological monitoring and the July 14 class will focus on land planning.
The instructor for both classes is Joshua Dukart, a rancher and holistic management certified educator from Bismarck, N.D. Besides his holistic management consulting work, Dukart also works with farmers on biologically diverse cropping management and integration of cover crops.
The biological monitoring class will include identifying short- and long-term indicators of soil health on grassland and cropland, learning basic and comprehensive land monitoring techniques and recognizing why monitoring your resources is essential to achieving objectives.
The land planning class includes identifying the best use of money, energy and time on your operation to achieve desired results sooner rather than later, prioritizing and developing infrastructure that ties into your financial, grazing and cropping plans to ensure profitability at each step along the way and developing a land plan that will serve your goals as well as opportunities for future generations.
