OLIVIA -- Clifford B. Holien, 94, of Olivia died Thursday at Clara City Nursing Home.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Wang Lutheran Church in rural Maynard. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia.

He was born Dec. 25, 1911, in Wang Township, rural Maynard, to Christ N. and Clara (Lerohl) Holien. He attended school in District 61 and parochial school in District 44. He helped on the family farm and worked installing telephone lines and also maintained roads in Wang Township.

He married Valerie Johnson on Feb. 24, 1951. They lived on the William Johnson century farm, north of Olivia. They farmed for many years and later moved to Fairview Place in Olivia.

He was a member of Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia and served on the church council, as well as on many local boards, including ASC Committee, American Red Cross and U.S. Geological Survey. He was the Renville County Township secretary and was treasurer for 35 years, was a director of the Renville County Historical Society and a director of Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his siblings: Walter (and Donna) Holien of Maynard, Evelyn (and Bill) Underwood of Donnelly, and Florence (and Conrad) Larson of Willmar.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two infant sons and three sisters.
