WILLMAR -- The Willmar Community-Owned Grocery organizing board is hosting "Delectable Desserts," a sampling of healthful desserts by some of Willmar's best bakery chefs, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Calvary Lutheran Church.
The event is an educational opportunity for people who crave sweets but also want to be health-conscious.
"With New Year resolutions to eat better, the COG wanted to bring people together over healthy desserts," said Mary Catherwood, a member of the organizing board of the Willmar Community-Owned Grocery.
Those who attend will have a chance to taste a variety of mini-desserts and get new recipe ideas, she said.
Now that the co-op has reached 100 member-owners, the board also will share upcoming plans and provide an update on its progress.

Mini-desserts will be provided by the following: Deidra's, Lulu Bean's, Timeless Traditions, Jazz 'N' Java, Brouwer Berries, Culinary Seasons and more.
The public is invited to participate. "Delectable Desserts" is part of an educational series being hosted by the COG. A Slow Food-a-Thon was held this past fall and a grower Q & A is scheduled for March 6.
The Willmar Community-Owned Grocery was formed in 2010 and emphasizes natural foods. It is working to develop a local food network to strengthen the region's economy and increase access to healthy eating choices. Following the cooperative model, it is seeking member-owners and local investors.
