WILLMAR -- A stranger to its home mat this season, Ridgewater College hosted an eight-team open tournament on Saturday with 13 of its wrestlers seeing action.
It was one of only three home events scheduled for the 2008-09 season, the first of which was canceled at the visiting team's request.
Ridgewater has seven more events scheduled before the post-season but all are away, including MCAC dual meets with Rochester, Itasca and Minnesota West.
This invite drew wrestlers from St. John's University, St. Cloud State, North Dakota State, Northern State, Southwest Minnesota State University, Concordia College and Itasca.
Trent Molacek at 174 pounds and Cody Kinney at heavyweight each reached the champion match before losing. Molacek lost 5-3 to St. Cloud State's Ryan Dougherty, a true freshman from Stoughton, Wis. Kinney was stopped 5-3 by Northern State University freshman Matt Meuleners, Class A state runner-up from Norwood-Young America at 215 pounds last year. Kinney placed third at heavyweight in Class A.
