BENSON -- Connie Mae Kennedy, 59, of Benson died Thursday at the Swift County-Benson Hospital following an extended illness.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson. Burial will be at the Benson City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church, and for one hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to Our Redeemer's Parish Nurse Program, Rice Hospice or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar.

She was born Sept. 25, 1946, in Benson to Ruby M. (Valentine) and Frank Higdon. She grew up in various communities inside and outside the United States. She graduated from Benson High School in 1964. She worked for a telephone company in Wisconsin and later for the Hagar Slacks Company in Dallas, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Okla. She returned to Benson in 1985 and worked for the Benson Hockey Association, the VFW Post and the Benson Municipal Liquor Store.

She married John E. "Jack" Kennedy on March 20, 1987, in Benson.

She was a member of the Benson VFW Auxiliary, the Willmar American Legion Auxiliary, and was a volunteer for the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

She is survived by her husband; son: Troy (and Julie) Kennedy of Benson; two grandchildren; her parents of Benson; and siblings: Clarence "Butch" Higdon of Jackson, Victor Higdon of Rockville, Nellie (and Chester) Amis of Herndon, Va., Melanie (and John) McMillion of Knife River and Rosalie Moe of Benson.

She was preceded in death by one brother.
