WILLMAR -- Construction began Monday on the city of Willmar's new wastewater treatment plant located near the brush site, west of Willmar, city officials said Tuesday.
Also, construction began Sept. 8 on the conveyance line connecting the present treatment plant to the new treatment plant.
The treatment plant portion of the project consists of constructing several buildings and structures to replace the present plant located just east of the Kandi Mall.
The conveyance project calls for installation of approximately 14,320 lineal feet of 48-inch and 54-inch diameter gravity sewer; 14,280 lineal feet of 16-inch diameter forcemain; and 3,210 lineal feet of 54-inch diameter outfall sewer. Motorists may encounter minor delays on the access road to the brush site. The brush site will remain open during construction and motorists are advised to slow down for their safety and safety of others.
The city anticipates construction will take two years.

The prime contractor for the plant is Graham Construction Services Inc. of Eagan. The prime contractor for the conveyance project is Weidema Contractors of Maple Grove and Voss Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning of Paynesville.
