STARBUCK -- Cora Evelyn Whitaker, 88, of Starbuck died Saturday at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowry. Burial will be at Trysil Cemetery, near Lowry.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hoplin Funeral Homer in Glenwood.
She was born Sept. 24, 1917, in Holmes City Township, near Farwell, to Oscar and Olive (Christianson) Nygaard. She attended country school and worked for the Reuben Hvezda family. She worked in the kitchen at The Bethany Homes in Alexandria and the Ebeneezer Lutheran Home in Minneapolis for many years.

She married William Windahl in 1962 in Kensington. They owned and operated the Windahl Cafe in Farwell. He died eight years later. She moved to Lowry in 1978 and worked at Anderson's Nursery near Farwell. She married Roy Whitaker in 1981. Roy died in 1984. She moved to Holly Ridge Manor in Starbuck in 2003.
She was a member of the local senior citizens group and the Farwell Lutheran Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher, and a member of the ladies aid.
She is survived by her sisters: Edith Anderson of Park Rapids, Sylvia Haabala of Farwell, Palma (and Orvis) Berg of Osceola, Wis., Adeline (and Herbert) Berg of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husbands; and one brother.
