ATWATER -- Two men from Willmar were killed and two others from Willmar were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:17 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 and County Road 4, about 2½ miles west of Atwater, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.
The deceased were identified as Edward F. Arndorfer, 80, who was driving one vehicle, and a passenger, Gerald M. Behrends, 71.
Listed as injured were Harold E. Hippe, 69, of Willmar, who was also a passenger in the Arndorfer vehicle, and Robert R. Husemann, 48, of Willmar, who was driving the other vehicle. Hippe and Husemann were treated and released at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The State Patrol said the 2001 Chrysler Concorde driven by Arndorfer was northbound on County Road 4 and the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Husemann was westbound on Highway 12 when the crash occurred. The patrol said the Arndorfer car was struck on the passenger side.
The Atwater Police Department and the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
