Olivia Police find deceased man after surrounding home in response to domestic
OLIVIA - A male suspect was found deceased in an Olivia residence approximately four hours after police responded to a domestic incident in the 700 block of Oak Avenue East around 6:36 a.m. Monday.
A female victim and children had fled the residence, and an Olivia police officer responding to the incident made entry into the house and removed a small child from possible harm. The officer also attempted to make contact with the adult male resident with no success, according to the Olivia Police Department.
The female victim expressed concerns to the responding officers that the male suspect may have access to a couple of long guns. Police established a perimeter around the residence, and requested assistance from the Olivia ambulance, Renville County Sheriff’s Department and the Emergency Response Unit from Brown, Lyon, Redwood and Renville Counties.
Neighbors were notified of the potential danger and law enforcement response. BOLD Schools in Olivia were placed on a precautionary lockdown.
The Emergency Response Unit arrived on scene at 10:10 and attempted to contact the male in the home. At about 10:55 members of the unit found the man deceased inside the residence.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office assisted and will be determining the cause of death and notifying next of kin.
