Meeker County authorities investigating death of 40-year-old found days after reported missing

LITCHFIELD - Meeker County authorities are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man after his body was found other than where he was believed to have died.

Shawn Jacob Medley, of Waverly, was found at a rural Ellsworth Township location at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, according to Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze. The Sheriff reported that officers found the man’s body after acting on a report of an unresponsive male at the location, which is withheld at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

Officers determined the man had been deceased for quite some time, according to the news release from the sheriff. He was identified as Medley, who had been reported missing on Feb. 7 in Wright County.

Medley’s vehicle, a 2010 silver Hyundai Elantra with Minnesota plates 748HUD, was found abandoned in Litchfield on the early morning hours of Feb. 10.

The sheriff’s report did not indicate the cause of death. According to the sheriff, the investigation into the cause and manner of death is ongoing.

Anyone who had contact with or has information on where Medley, or his vehicle has been during the past week is urged to contact the Meeker County Sheriff’s office at 320-693-5400 or leave information on a confidential tip line at 320-693-5411.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Litchfield Police are assisting in the investigation.
