Man arrested after standoff in Milroy


REDWOOD FALLS - A suspect was arrested Wednesday after a lengthy standoff that began with a report of a domestic assault.

The Redwood County Sheriff's Office said an investigation was underway into a domestic assault-related incident Wednesday morning in Milroy when deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on a male suspect.

A brief pursuit ensued and the driver fled into a nearby building, according to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies surrounded the building and the Brown/Lyon/Redwood/Renville Emergency Response Unit was dispatched to the scene. After several hours of negotiations the man was taken into custody, the Sheriff's Office said.

The Milroy public school was placed on a brief lockdown during the standoff.

The suspect's name has not been released pending formal charges.

The Redwood County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Brown/Lyon/Redwood/Renville ERU, Morgan Police Department, Lamberton Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Milroy Fire Department, North Ambulance and Wabasso Ambulance.
