Deputies involved in fatal shooting in central Minnesota

MILTONA, Minn. - One person is dead in the central Minnesota town of Miltona in what the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is calling an officer-involved shooting Tuesday morning, Feb. 26.

Two sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at 5:15 a.m., Sheriff Troy Wolbersen said, and at one point a deputy discharged his firearm.

The officers involved were not physically injured, and will be placed on standard administrative leave, Wolbersen said. The Midwest Medical Examiner's office will release the identity of the deceased and preliminary autopsy results.

Miltona is about 15 miles north of Alexandria.

The sheriff's office has requested the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to conduct an investigation into the shooting. The BCA is processing the scene and will provide information as its investigation continues, the sheriff's office said.
