St. Paul man steals over $1K of surf and turf from grocery store

Sedwick Hunter

Sedwick Hunter walked into a Cub Foods in Arden Hills last month and filled a grocery cart with enough steak and seafood for a feast, authorities say. Then he walked out without paying for any of it.

The St. Paul man concealed 12 packages of crab legs, 33 packages of steak and six rolls of hamburger meat totaling more than $1,000 in black plastic bags before exiting the store last March, according to charges filed against him Friday, April 12, in Ramsey County District Court.

However, Hunter was easily recognized by the store’s loss prevention staff because it’s a tactic he’s used several times before at other metro-area Cub locations, court documents say.

Last November, for example, Hunter fled from the same store with some 30 pounds of crab legs and more than 20 packages of red meat, according to a criminal complaint.

The outcome of that case is pending.

The 46-year-old was convicted of felony theft for attempting to steal crab and steak from a St. Paul Cub Foods in 2015. He received a five-year stayed sentence and was ordered to spend 120 days in jail.

Hunter was charged via warrant with one count of felony-level theft for the latest instance, the complaint said.
