Driver trapped when semi rolls over north of Benson

BENSON - A truck driver was trapped inside his semi and had to be extricated after a rollover Wednesday morning on Minnesota Highway 9 north of Benson.

The Minnesota State Patrol said the driver reportedly swerved to avoid hitting deer on the road. His 2014 Peterbilt semi then went into the ditch and rolled over, landing on its passenger side.

The driver, Randall Jacob Roth, 56, of Lake Lillian, was trapped inside and extracted by the Benson Fire Department. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. The driver was wearing a seat belt, and alcohol was not involved.

The crash, reported at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, temporarily closed a section of Highway 9 while rescue operations were underway. The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported the road reopened about 1:30 p.m.

The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Swift County Sheriff's Office, Swift County-Benson Ambulance, Lifelink, and the Benson police and fire departments.
