Six hurt in Renville County crash, one in critical condition

HECTOR — A driver is in critical condition and five others injured as the result of a two-vehicle collision at 1:08 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Renville County Road 16 and 730th Avenue southeast of Hector in Palmyra Township .

Cole Ramsley, 29, of Fairfax, was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, where he is listed in critical condition, according to information from the Renville County Sheriff’s Office. Ramsley had been ejected from the 2001 Chevrolet 3500 service truck he was driving.

Five passengers in a 2015 Honda Pilot driven by Donn Madsen, 68, of Belview, were transported to area hospitals for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The injured passengers are Andrew Petty, 22, of Seaforth; Colin Petty, 23, of Seaforth; Ashleigh Grimm, 33, of Redwood Falls; and Jacob Grimm, 37, of Redwood Falls.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office reports that an initial investigation indicates that the Chevrolet service truck driven by Ramsley was traveling west on 730th Avenue and failed to stop at the stop sign before entering the intersection. The Honda Pilot driven by Madsen struck the truck in the intersection. Both vehicles entered the ditch and came to a stop in a field.

Responders at the scene assisted Madsen out of the vehicle. His passengers were able to get out on their own, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hector Fire Department, Hector Ambulance, Fairfax Ambulance, North Memorial Air Care and the Minnesota State Patrol.
