Canby man dies in western Yellow Medicine County crash

CANBY — An 81-year-old man from Canby died when the 2007 Prius he was driving collided with a 1995 Kenworth semi-tractor on a snow- and ice-covered U.S. Highway 75 in Hammer Township in western Yellow Medicine County at 5:27 a.m. Saturday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Sigmund Delano Armitage, 81, was transported from the accident scene to Sanford Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the semi, Dean Allan Anderson, 56, of Campbell, Minnesota, was not injured.

The semi was northbound on Highway 75 and the Prius was southbound when they collided. Armitage was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the accident report.

The Yellow Medicine Sheriff’s Office, Canby Fire and Ambulance responded to the scene.

Pennock man hurt in one-vehicle accident

PENNOCK — A 35-year-old Pennock man was treated at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for non-life threatening injuries he received in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 12 at 75th Street in Saint John’s Township, Kandiyohi County, at 9:59 a.m. on Sunday.

Jason Christopher Moe was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am east on Highway 12 when its tire blew out, causing the vehicle to go off the road into the ditch, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

Prinsburg woman injured in one-vehicle accident

CLARA CITY — A 46-year-old Prinsburg woman was treated at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for non-life threatening injuries she received in a one-vehicle accident on state Highway 7 in Rheiderland Township, Chippewa County, at 11:11 p.m. on Saturday.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Ann Marie Thole was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer that went off the snow- and ice-covered roadway and rolled.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Clara City Police and Ambulance and Granite Falls Ambulance responded to the scene.

Hutchinson woman hurt in Meeker County accident

LITCHFIELD — A 23-year-old Hutchinson woman was treated at the Hutchinson Hospital for non-life threatening injuries she suffered in a one-vehicle accident on state Highway 15 near 180th Street in Collinwood Township, Meeker County, at 11:16 a.m. on Sunday.

Daryl Ann Fredericks was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee north on Highway 15 when it spun out on ice and rolled into the ditch, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the accident scene.

Thefts

KANDIYOHI — A 55-gallon barrel pump was stolen from a shed on the 6100 block of 45th Avenue Northeast, Kandiyohi, it was reported Sunday morning.

WILLMAR — A Willmar man reported his truck was stolen from the 600 block of Seventh Street Southwest, Willmar, on Saturday night.

WILLMAR — A high-top chair, brown in color with multi-colored seat, was stolen from a hallway outside an apartment on the 1100 block of Second Street Southeast, Willmar, on Saturday evening.

WILLMAR — A DeWalt impact driver was stolen from a property on the 3000 block of First Street South, Willmar, on Saturday morning.

Willmar firefighters douse kitchen fire

WILLMAR - Willmar firefighters quickly extinguished a fire that started in the kitchen of a home on the 600 block of Seventh Street SW at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The fire caused damage to the home’s kitchen. Other parts of the home sustained smoke damage, according to Willmar Fire Chief Frank Hanson.

The homeowner had left a cardboard box on a hot, ceramic stove top. The homeowner discovered and reported the fire, and was not injured.

Firefighters arriving at the scene attacked the blaze and had it extinguished in about 10 minutes, reported the chief. They remained on the scene until 7:15 p.m.



Vandalism

WILLMAR — A plate was bent and a gas cap ripped off on a vehicle on the 900 block of Fifth Street Southwest, Willmar, it was reported Sunday morning.

WILLMAR — A vehicle owner reported the interior of her vehicle was damaged while parked earlier in the week in an apartment building parking lot on the 300 block of Seventh Street Northwest, Willmar.
