Missing teen found

WILLMAR — A teenager who has been missing since she walked away from a secure juvenile facility in Willmar in July has been found in Faribault County.

Madison Hjermstad, 17, left a secure facility on foot with another juvenile in July. The second juvenile was found. Hjermstad had not had contact with her family, and there was a concern for her well being.

After she was found, she was taken to a secure facility in the Faribault County area.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Faribault County and Willmar Police Department had worked to find the girl.

Bad checks reported

NEW LONDON — Altered checks from Redwood County were reportedly offered at Main Street businesses in New London and also in Willmar Thursday afternoon.

WILLMAR — Forged checks on a closed account, worth several hundred dollars, were passed at a business on 19th Avenue Southwest. The checks were reported Thursday afternoon.

Dryer fire sends three to hospital

WILLMAR — A clothes dryer fire sent three people to the hospital Thursday evening for smoke inhalation.

The Willmar Fire Department was called about 8:15 p.m. Thursday to the 1400 block of Vista Lane Southwest in Willmar.

The fire was out when firefighters arrived, but the house was filled with heavy smoke. The three occupants in the home at the time of the fire were taken to Carris Health-Rice Memorial Hospital.

The dryer sustained heavy fire damage, and the rest of the house had some smoke damage.

Fire crews were on site until about 9:15 p.m. The cause is listed as overheated clothes in the dryer.

Centra Care EMS and Willmar Police Department assisted the Fire Department.
