Woman arrested after pursuit in stolen vehicle

WILLMAR – Following a three-mile pursuit by law enforcement Saturday east of Willmar, a 28-year-old woman from Kandiyohi was arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle from the Walmart parking lot.

According to a news release from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, the Willmar Police Department took a report of a motor vehicle theft from Walmart at around 6:14 p.m. A short time later the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle leaving Willmar, going east on County Road 23.

The vehicle fled during an attempt to perform a traffic stop and traveled about three miles before officers performed a pursuit intervention technique that ended the incident.

The suspect was taken into custody and is currently being held in the Kandiyohi County Jail, according to the news release.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Willmar Police Department and the State Patrol.

The incident remains under investigation.

Theft & break-ins

NEW LONDON – Law enforcement took a report at 11:19 a.m. Sunday that a man had attempted to steal a freezer the previous night from a campsite at Sibley State Park.

WILLMAR – Police took a report at 3:17 a.m. Sunday of people breaking into vehicles in the 900 block of Sixth Street Southwest.

WILLMAR – At 5:41 p.m. Saturday a checkbook was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2000 block of Sixth Street Southwest.

WILLMAR – A burglary was reported at 4:37 p.m. Saturday at storage units in the 1800 block of Becker Avenue Southeast.

WILLMAR – A report was filed at 4 p.m. Saturday that a man had cut a bicycle out of a rack in the 2200 block of 15th Street South.

WILLMAR – A guitar was reported stolen at 2:30 p.m. Saturday from a vehicle in the 120 block of Benson Avenue Southwest.

WILLMAR – A report was filed at 12:24 p.m. Saturday that a wallet had been stolen from a vehicle in the 1900 block of Sixth Street Southwest.

Weapon complaint

SPICER – A report was filed at 6:47 p.m. Saturday that an individual had stepped out of their house and fired a shotgun toward Green Lake where a pontoon was located.


NEW LONDON – Emergency personnel responded to a single-occupant ATV accident at 4:45 p.m. Saturday in the 17000 block of Third Street Northeast. Another report was filed at 5:24 p.m. at the same address indicating a second accident had occurred involving an ambulance and a first responder’s private vehicle. No further information was available.


SPICER – A 23-year-old man was arrested on drinking and driving-related charges at 8:12 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of Lake Avenue South and another individual was taken by ambulance to the hospital because of a high intoxication level.

WILLMAR – A 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were arrested at 4:19 p.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of 13th Street Southwest on drug-related charges.


WILLMAR – An individual told police Saturday afternoon they had been close to being scammed out of gift cards. According to the police report filed at 2:53 p.m., an individual said they’d received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the U.S. Marshall’s office and that they needed to buy gift cards from Walmart and then give the office the numbers from the cards or else he’d be arrested. The individual told police they’d purchased the gift cards and then suspected it was a scam and did not give the scammers any information. The police told the individual that law enforcement would never ask for money over the phone and would especially not ask for gift cards.
