SIOUX FALLS — Court records show Algene Vossen, 79, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, requested a continuance during his Aug. 21 hearing in Sioux Falls regarding his extradition to Kandiyohi County to face a second-degree murder charge in the 1974 fatal stabbing of Mabel "Mae" Herman in her home in Willmar.

Court records available online do not indicate why Vossen requested the delay in the proceedings.

While Vossen has not waived his right to the extradition process, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has received and signed the extradition warrant sent from Minnesota.

Vossen was tied to the Herman homicide by DNA evidence in July after the Willmar Police Department put together a cold case team to look into the matter.

Vossen is currently in the Minnehaha County Jail in South Dakota awaiting his next extradition hearing, scheduled for Oct. 16.
