Man arrested for assault of Willmar PD officers, other charges after store altercation
WILLMAR — A 31-year-old Willmar man was arrested on several charges at 3:24 p.m. Tuesday at the 2200 block of First Street South in Willmar, including the assault of Willmar Police Department officers.
According to a news release from Willmar Police Capt. Michael Anderson, officers were dispatched to a report of a fight at a local store between a customer and an employee.
According to the release, a manager was struck in the face when he attempted to intervene in an altercation between the customer and an employee.
The customer was walking out when officers arrived. Officers spoke to him and to people in the store.
When officers told the customer he was under arrest for assault, he became combative and assaulted three officers, Anderson said in the release.
The man was eventually detained and transported to the Kandiyohi County Jail. Pending charges included three counts of assault of a peace officer, two counts of fifth-degree assault and counts of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.
He was not listed in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.
The officers suffered minor injuries and were not transported to the hospital.
REDWOOD FALLS — A driver of a semitractor was taken to Carris Health — Redwood Hospital in Redwood Falls after the truck rolled onto its side, trapping the driver inside. Bystanders assisted in getting the driver out, according to a news release from the Redwood County Sheriff's Office.
According to the release, Leroy Simpson Brown, 33, of Kansas City, Missouri, was driving the 2019 International around 11:48 a.m. Tuesday westbound on County Road 46, near County Road 8, when the truck reached a curve in the road. Brown lost control of the truck on the curve, and the vehicle tipped on to its side.
The truck was disabled due to damages from the crash, the release said.
