BROOTEN -- Repeat champion Linda Keller led the Paynesville girls to defense of its 2006 title at the 12-school Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Invite on Thursday at Prairie View.
Keller, third at the state meet last fall as a sophomore, finished the 4,000 meters in 14:37, which was 43 seconds under her winning time a year ago.
Maren Greenwaldt of Minnewaska was 59 seconds back of Keller in second.
Freshman Tanner Wendroth made it a sweep for Paynesville when he won the boys race in a time of 16:59 for 5,000 meters. Albany won the team title over Montevideo, which had won last year.
