CLARKFIELD -- Curtis Celestial Lynner, 89, of Clarkfield died Saturday at Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield after an extended illness.

The service will be at 11 a.m. today at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Clarkfield Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by American Legion J. Ben Johnson Post 169.

Visitation was Thursday at the Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield.

He was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, to H. Christian and Clara (Melbostad) Lynner. He graduated in 1936 from Clarkfield High School. He went to school at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Then he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was in the Signal Corps of the 12th Air Force in Africa, Sicily and Italy.

He married Ruth Sturgeon on March 10, 1946. They farmed west of Clarkfield for many years. They retired and moved into Clarkfield.

He was a 61-year member of American Legion Post 169 where he served as commander for several years. He was a board member of Clarkfield Lutheran Cemetery, Farmers Home Administration, Farm Bureau and Tyro Township. He served as a 4-H Leader.

He is survived by his children: Charles Lynner of Montevideo, Jean Lynner of Clarkfield, and Virginia Wilson (and fiancée Dave Schmitt) of Clarkfield; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother: James (and Arlene) Lynner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two sisters and a brother.
