MINNEAPOLIS -- Daniel John Carroll, 84, of Minneapolis, formerly of Kandiyohi, died May 3 at the Minneapolis Veterans Home.
The services were held May 10 at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel. Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
He was born May 31, 1923, in Minneapolis to John and Agnes (Kavanaugh) Carroll. They moved to Willmar and then to Kandiyohi. He attended Whittier Elementary School in Kandiyohi. He graduated in 1941 from Willmar High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946, in England and Germany, and during the Korean War.
He married Mary Jane Hoppe on Oct. 25, 1947, in Paynesville. He was employed as a manager of several Montgomery Ward stores for many years in various states. They moved 15 times. They retired in St. Louis Park. He moved to the Minneapolis Veterans Home after becoming ill.
He is survived by his wife; children: Kevin (and Maureen) of Rosemount, Kolleen (and Gary) Afeldt of McHenry, Ill., and Kathy Jo (and Jeff) Smith of Arden Hills; nine grandchildren; sisters: Eileen Flanders of Paynesville and Kathleen (and Quentin) Norine of Willmar.
