SOCORRO, N.M.-- David I. Norman, 67, of Socorro, N.M., died May 5 in Ghana, Africa.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro, N.M. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Steadman-Hall Funeral Home and a rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday at the San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro.

He was born June 8, 1940, in Willmar to Lester and Dorothy (Kelly) Norman. He graduated in 1958 from Willmar High School and got a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Minnesota. He served in the Peace Corps from 1966 to 1968. He received his Ph.D. in geology from the University of Minnesota in 1976.

He married Mary Fishburn in 1976. They spent 1976 to 1978 in Norway. Then they settled in Socorro, N.M., where he was a professor at New Mexico Tech from 1978 until his death.
He was a member of the San Miguel Catholic Church. He was a working member of several scientific associations.
He is survived by his wife; children: Paul Norman of Socorro, Kirsten Norman of Albuquerque, N.M., and Anna Norman of Iowa City, Iowa; sisters: Mary (and Doug) Wilkowske of Willmar, Barbara (and Stan) Colburn of Andover and Patty (and John) Radabaugh of Willmar.
