REDWOOD FALLS -- Demis M. Whipple Jr., 60, of Redwood Falls, formerly of the Santee Sioux Nation, Neb., died Thursday after a brief illness.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Cornelia's Episcopal Church - Bishop Whipple Mission at the Lower Sioux Community. Burial will be at St. Cornelia's Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the church hall and continue until the time of the service Saturday. Arrangements are with Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.

He was born Nov. 20, 1946, in Winnebago, Neb., to Demis and Evelyn (Red Owl) Whipple. He grew up on the west side of St. Paul. He attended school for welding and TVI. He worked as a welder in St. Paul and moved to Redwood Falls in 2000 to be closer to his common-law wife, Kathleen "Cup" Dow, and their family.
He is survived by his children: Mark Whipple, Shelly Dow, Stacey Dow; seven grandchildren; and his siblings: Joyce Whitted of Lompoc, Calif., Betty Tevo of Kansas City, Mo., Verna Warren of St. Paul, Sylvia Whipple of St. Paul and Leslie Whipple of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son: Sam; one granddaughter; and three brothers.
