The Rice Diabetes and Nutrition Center will host an open house from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday in con-junction with National Diabetes Day. The Diabetes and Nutrition Center is on the second floor of the Lakeland Health Center, 502 Second St. S.W., Willmar.
Blood glucose screenings will be offered for the public. Visitors will have a chance to ask a diabe-tes team -- consisting of a nurse, dietitian, exercise physiologist and social worker -- about diabe-tes-related issues such as medication management, safe and effective ways to exercise, the latest information on healthy eating and diabetes, and coping with diabetes self-care.
Vendors and exhibits will be available in the Rice Auditorium, on the lowest level of the Lakeland Health Center.
At 7 p.m. in the Rice Auditorium, there will be a panel discussion on challenges and successes of diabetes self-management, featuring local people with diabetes.
