Unconditional bail was set at $20,000. Conditional bail was allowed at $1,000. His next appearance is Dec. 8.
According to the complaint, a Kandiyohi County Sheriff's detective was following up on a possession of stolen property case involving Hoting and a stolen Caterpillar skid steer. He made his first appearance on Friday on a felony charge and was released on his personal recognizance.
The detective noted that the license plate on trailer found with the skid steer was issued to a man in La Crescent for a homemade trailer. However, the trailer in question appeared to be factory built and relatively new. The detective examined the trailer and found a manufacturer's sticker from Towmaster in Litchfield. The vehicle identification number didn't match and came back as stolen out of Meeker County.
The detective contacted Meeker County law enforcement and learned that the trailer, along with concrete forms and equipment, was reported stolen on Sept. 11 from the Litchfield area.
Two Kandiyohi County detectives went to Hoting's home in southeast Willmar and a man there said that the trailers at the place belonged to his brother and uncle. He declined to talk further with the officers.
The detectives returned with a search warrant and found the concrete forms and equipment in a garage. Two of the trailers parked at the place had very recently had their serial number plates obliterated. The officers seized the trailers and are making an attempt to locate their owners.
