WILLMAR - The action at Willmar High School’s Homecoming football game Friday night wasn't just confined to the field.
An 18-year-old spectator in the student section of the bleachers landed in jail after allegedly causing a disturbance, reportedly engaging in obnoxious behavior and making advances on female students.
School staff asked Willmar Police to remove the youth, who witnesses said appeared to be intoxicated.
He didn’t go quietly. A Willmar Police sergeant said the suspect first refused to cooperate with directions, then attempted to evade officers as they advanced into the stands to physically remove him. One officer was struck in the face while the suspect was escorted out of the bleachers. A Taser finally had to be used to gain control of the situation as the suspect continued to fight with the arresting officers.
The incident happened at around 9:15 p.m., late in the football game.
