The Department of Defense announced Thursday the death of Army Pfc. Ryane G. Clark of New London, while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

The DOD news release said Clark, 22, died Oct. 4 in Shekhabad, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades.

Clark was assigned to the 27th Combat Engineer Battalion (Airborne), 20th Combat Engineer Brigade, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Clark, who graduated in 2007 from New London-Spicer High School, where he was on the wrestling team, will be remembered tonight when the NLS Wildcats meet Milaca at the school football field.

One-third of the money raised by the football raffle will be designated to a memorial in honor of Clark. The remainder will be split between the winner of the raffle and the Willmar Regional Cancer Center to promote breast cancer awareness.
