ATWATER -- Douglas Harrison Hamilton, 86, of Atwater, died Wednesday at Bethesda Pleasant View in Willmar.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. Burial will be Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.
Visitation will begin at noon Saturday at the church. Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Aug. 21, 1921, to Vernon and Mae (Warner) Hamilton in rural Sparta, Wis. He attended the Bear Lake School through 8th grade. He worked in Beloit, Wis., for a short time and then graduated from Machinist School in Chicago and Detroit. He worked as a machinist for two years, but asthma attacks forced him to resign. He then bought a dump truck and hauled loads for various employers in Michigan and then at Page Laundry and Reynolds Aluminum in Chicago. He moved to Minnesota and worked at the Hormel-Armour Meat Packing Plant in St. Paul.
He married Gertrude Vivian Pierce on Jan. 16, 1947, Webster, S.D. They lived in Litchfield. He joined Albright and Keintz Chevrolet in Atwater as a car salesman in 1949. He opened Hamilton Motor Sales in Grove City in 1954 and moved the business to Atwater in 1957. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Litchfield.

He is survived by two sons: Douglas II (and Chari) of Marshall, and Bud (and Terri) of Atwater; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1995, one grandson and two brothers.
