WILLMAR -- A 15-year-old male driver was arrested and is being held on various charges after leading a Kandiyohi County sheriff’s deputy on a high-speed pursuit early this morning.

At about 2:45 a.m., the deputy was completing a traffic stop at Highway 71 and Highway 9 when a southbound 1994 Ford Explorer passed the deputy’s location at over 80 mph. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused.

A pursuit was initiated and continued south on Highway 71 toward Willmar at speeds approaching 95 mph. The pursuit was terminated on the Highway 71/23 bypass near the Willmar Avenue exit.

The driver was arrested and is being held on charges of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and no Minnesota driver’s license.

Also in the vehicle was a 16-year-old female runaway from Albany.
