Driver eludes Swift County deputy, reaches speed of 107 mph

BENSON - The driver of a silver Pontiac Grand Prix involved in a high-speed pursuit with the Swift County Sheriff’s Office, the Benson Police Department and the State Patrol remains at large after the Saturday evening pursuit ended on gravel roads in Swift County.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the driver of the 2000 Pontiac with no rear license plate. Anyone with information is asked to call 320-843-3133.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when a deputy initiated a traffic stop around 8:40 p.m. near Kerkhoven for registration and equipment violations.

As the deputy was preparing to approach the driver, the vehicle sped away with the pursuit reaching 107 mph on U.S. Highway 12. The pursuit continued on gravel roads south of Kerkhoven and Murdock before the deputy lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the pursuit.
