WILLMAR -- Duane Charles Sheldahl, 60, of Willmar died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar with military honors by American Legion Post 167.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

He was born June 16, 1947, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Edward and Ruth (Hertzke) Sheldahl. He grew up in Lakota, Iowa, where he graduated from Lakota High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Sheryl Heesch on June 21, 1969, in Titonka, Iowa. They lived in Thompson and Forrest City, Iowa, where he was employed by Winnebago Industries. In 1980, they moved to Willmar. He worked for Christianson Systems as a purchasing agent for 27 years.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran, where he served on the stewardship committee and church council. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 167 in Willmar and also volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 224.

He is survived by his wife; children: Michael Sheldahl of Hugo, Shayla (and Jonathan) Mellema of Willmar; five grandchildren; his parents; brothers: Robert (and Mavis) Sheldahl of Albuquerque, N.M., Gary (and Eleanor) Sheldahl of Forrest City, Iowa; and sisters: Diane (and Paul) Geilenfeldt of Baxter, Iowa, and Nancy (and Tom) Distler of Solon, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
