GLENCOE -- E. Philip Swenson, 78, of Glencoe died Monday at his home.

The service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in St. Peter.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour before the service at the church.

Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe is handling arrangements.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1929, to Enock and Olga (Nelson) Swenson at home on the Edenwood farm in Green Lake Township near Spicer. He grew up on the farm, attended country school and Willmar High School. After high school graduation, he attended Lutheran Bible Institute, but returned to the family farm when his brothers were drafted into the service.

He married Delores Engwall on Oct. 27, 1951, in Spicer. They lived in central Minnesota until they moved in 1968 to St. Peter where he worked for GAC as the Lund Building supervisor until he retired in 1998.

He was involved at Trinity Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, participated in the 7 a.m. men's Bible study and served on the council. He cared for the elderly and sick through the Stephens Ministry, Lutheran Social Service, and Vine. After he retired, he worked for the St. Peter Parks Department.

He is survived by his wife; children: Steven and (Sarah Molnau) Swenson of Lakeville, , LuAnn (and Robert) Messerli of Rhinelander, Wis., and Kris (and Dave) Glidden of St. Peter; nine grandchildrenn; and two brothers: David (and Judy) Swenson of Midland, Texas, and Jon (and Janice) Swenson of Cromwell.

He was preceded in death by one brother.
