FERGUS FALLS -- A 20-2 scoring burst in the first half sent the Willmar Cardinals on their way to a 75-51 victory over Fergus Falls in Central Lakes boys basketball on Tuesday.
Kyle Townswick led Willmar with 15 points. The junior guard hit four treys before coming out of the game with nine minutes left in the game and the win well in hand.
Tyler Horning and Cory Hanson followed with 11 points each.
Perhaps trying to erase the taste of their last outing, Willmar scored 38 points in the first half to lead by 14. The Cardinals scored only 10 first-half points Friday while losing to New London-Spicer 58-46 at the Willmar Bremer Bank Classic final.
Down 8-2 early, Horning and Matt Seehusen each hit their first attempt to spark the rally. Townswick hit a pair of treys and in minutes Willmar surged to the front, 24-12.

"That felt really good," said Willmar coach Steve Grove of the burst. "This was a total team effort tonight, both in finding the open man and on defense. Kyle hit four treys but you wish he'd shoot more sometimes."
Matt Roisum added seven points, four assists and three steals. Ryan Hagemeyer chipped in eight points and 6-7 junior post Tom Boike scored seven points late in the game.
The Otters' Nick Lewis led all scorers with 18 points.
