WILLMAR - The Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar Economic Development Commission is taking steps to fill its agriculture and renewable energy specialist position.
The full-time position became vacant with the recent resignation of Leroy Petersen. Petersen had been with the EDC since February.
Steve Renquist, executive director of the Economic Development Commission, said he wants to fill the position by the beginning of January.
He cited several projects the ag and renewable energy specialist has been working on, including the development of a legislative bill that would create a renewable energy zone in west central Minnesota.
“I would like to move forward rather aggressively on this,” Renquist said.

At a meeting Thursday of the EDC joint operations board, the consensus was that the position should remain full time.
