House District 14B is a race between GOP challenger Nate Stang and DFL incumbent Larry Hosch. This is a showdown between two young politicians.
Stang is a 21-year-old restaurant manager from Cold Spring running his first campaign. Too often, he tends to invoke his uncle's name -- former legislator Doug Stang -- rather than his own ideas.
A DFL first-termer elected in 2004, Hosch, now 29, was first elected mayor of St. Joseph in 2000 at age 23. He is an intelligent, informed and enthusiastic public official. His second-term goals are property tax reduction and adequate state funding of K-12 education.
The West Central Tribune endorses Hosch for re-election in House District 14B.
