House District 18B voters face the choice of GOP incumbent Dean Urdahl or DFL challenger David Detert. This is a choice between a retired educator with political experience versus a family practice doctor with school board experience.
Urdahl has served two terms in the House representing the district. His focus has been trying to help the dairy industry with a loan program. He's also worked on education issues and transportation funding. While he's worked hard, he hasn't been successful in getting his bills passed.
Detert's medical background is badly needed in the Legislature. His background and intelligence outweigh Urdahl's legislative experience and abilities.
Detert has worked as a physician in Litchfield and Redwood Falls for more than 25 years. He knows the challenges facing the health care industry, especially from a rural standpoint.
With six years on the Litchfield School Board and as president of the school's foundation, he also knows K-12 education and its current challenges.
