Minnesota faces a senatorial choice Nov. 7 between DFL-endorsed Amy Klobuchar, Republican nominee Mark Kennedy or Independence Party nominee Robert Fitzgerald.
Klobuchar has spent eight years as Hennepin County Attorney. She is a tough prosecutor from the state's largest county. She has a background of taking on tough issues and asking tough questions, starting with her advocacy for new mothers need for proper hospital stays.
Kennedy, behind significantly in most polls, has been in the attack mode for months. He has foolishly "stayed the course" on Iraq, even as President Bush eliminated the phrase from his vocabulary. As a three-term congressman, Kennedy has failed in his oversight role, while specializing in his Bush-backer role.
While a long shot, Fitzgerald is a refreshing candidate with his bright quips and campaign bus, but he has not developed a significant following.
Klobuchar has been successful in focusing on the issues. A strong persuader, she knows how to get things done.

She responded properly and promptly reporting a campaign staffer's access to an unreleased Kennedy ad.
In Iraq, Klobuchar believes America must change its course by adapting to find a political solution in order to bring the troops home safely.
If elected, Klobuchar would seek a seat on the agriculture committee. She understands the value of Minnesota's renewables -- ethanol, biodiesel and wind energy.
We believe the choice is quite clear -- Klobuchar should be elected to the U.S. Senate.
