The MACCRAY School Board is asking its district voters to consider a two-part local operating levy to provide necessary funding for the budget.

The first question is a levy of $225 per student for the next 10 years. This levy would generate about $180,000 per year to address general operating expenses for the district.

The second question is a levy of $65 per student for four years to generate about $52,000 a year to address delayed maintenance projects and other maintenance issues.

The MACCRAY District already has two levies in place. The $501.03 per pupil approved in 2001 and another $270 per pupil approved in 2005 were each for a period of 10 years.

The proposed levies will help the district deal with the challenge of declining enrollment. Earlier this year, the district cut 10 percent of its budget to address a budget shortfall. And the district will still likely face additional budget cuts due to declining revenue.

MACCRAY has a strong tradition in supporting its district and its students.

We hope the district voters will continue that support by approving these two levies. It will be a critical vote for the future of MACCRAY students.
