Willmar Lakes Area businesses are being asked to make a 5 percent portion of their purchases with Kandiyohi County businesses.
It is a good idea worth serious consideration by all Kandiyohi County businesses.
This effort, sponsored by the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, seeks to redirect 5 percent of the $840 million that businesses in the county spend each year. This equals about $3.2 million each business day.
The goal of redirecting just 5 percent of this business spending in the county would result in a $42 million boost to the Kandiyohi County economy.
That is a significant amount.

Kandiyohi County businesses purchase a wid-range of products and services every year. There are basic products like hand soap and paper towels. There are office supplies, advertising, computer and data processing services, insurance services and printing.
The "Buy Into The Lakes Area" initiative is seeking to build the awareness of the importance of buying in Kandiyohi County. The initiative also will seek to increase the business-to-business networking to make businesses more aware of local purchasing opportunities.
The steps are rather simple.
Businesses are being asked to make a pledge to shift 5 percent of their annual out-of-area spending to county businesses.
Then show your business support for the Buy into the Lakes Area program through the company's marketing, advertising and business displays.
The Buy into the Lakes Area initiative plans to introduce the concept to local government, institutions and the public in the future as well.
Buying into the Lakes Area is a good concept. It is an investment of local business purchasing in Kandiyohi County.
