The campaign is on to be the Capital for a Day during Minnesota's Sesquicentennial celebration next year.
Kandiyohi County has been nominated to be the Capital for a Day representing the Prairie Grasslands biome, which includes much of west central and southwest Minnesota.
Other west central nominations include Fort Ridgely State Park, Milan, Montevideo/Lac qui Parle Mission and Redwood Falls. There are other cities competing for the Prairie Grasslands Capital for a Day honor.
There are four other Minnesota biome regions competing for their own Capital for a Day. They include the Coniferous Forest in north central and northeast regions, Deciduous Forest Zone in the central region; Tallgrass Aspen in the northwest region and the Driftless Area in the southeast region.
The Minnesota Statehood Sesquicentennial Commission was forced to start the vote over this week. The cities of Wabasha and Rushford voters were voting multiple times.
