WILLMAR - Education Minnesota will host a meeting in Willmar on Thursday to discuss recruiting, training and supporting high-quality teachers.
The state’s largest education union has been hosting similar meetings around the state.
The meeting will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Willmar Community and Activity Center, 624 Highway 71 N.E., Willmar. The event is free and open to the public.
The meetings are intended to open a discussion of how to improve teacher preparation, recruitment and diversity. Anyone interested in the future of public education in Minnesota is invited to attend.
“As we travel across the state, it’s clear Minnesotans value teachers and want to find ways to attract the best and brightest to the profession, train them well and support them once they’re in the classroom so they make teaching a lifelong career,” said Education Minnesota President Denise Specht in a news release.
The Willmar meeting is the fifth in the series. Others will be held in Rochester, Brooklyn Park, St. Paul and Red Lake.
The meeting will begin with brief remarks followed by small group discussions. Ideas will be collected and brought to a wider audience this spring. The goal is to use the information to improve teacher quality, whether by form new partnerships with organizations or writing new policies and legislative proposals.
