WILLMAR — The Willmar School District is among those in the region experiencing positive cases of COVID-19 among students and staff.

Superintendent Jeff Holm reported on Friday that the district has had 12 positive cases, with at least one positive case in six of the district’s schools.

According to the latest information from the district, the Kennedy and Lakeland Elementary Schools each have experienced four positive cases. The Roosevelt Elementary, Jefferson Learning Center, Middle School, and High School have each reported one case.

The Area Learning Center has not seen a positive case at this time.

Due to privacy restrictions, the district is unable to report how many of the positive cases are staff members and how many are students.

Schools consider a variety of factors in deciding whether to offer in-person, hybrid or virtual instruction. One of the biggest factors is the county’s case rate for COVID-19 infection. The current rate in Kandiyohi County is 16.64 per 10,000 residents. The Minnesota Department of Health recommends that for case rates between 10 to 20, schools hold in-person instruction in elementary schools and hybrid instruction in middle and high schools.
