HANCOCK -- Edward Earl Wilson, 77, of Hancock died Tuesday at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. Burial will be at the Appleton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Vaala Funeral Home in Appleton and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

He was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Waseca to Frances and Alice (Marshman) Webber. He was placed in an orphanage at Owatonna State Public School at the age of three. He was adopted by Charles and Louise Wilson when he was 9. He attended school in Chokio and Hancock until the 10th grade.

In 1950, he entered the U.S. Army and served with Company M 503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment. He was honorably discharged in 1952. In 1962 he purchased the farm south of Hancock.

He married Thelma Anderson on July 7, 1969, in Wabasso. They farmed until 1982. He placed the farm into the CRP program when he retired.

He was a member of American Legion Post 29 and Am Vets Chapter 290 of Morris, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and trap shooting clubs.

He is survived by his wife; children: Paul (and Joye) Wilson of Rochester, Penny Wilson (and Brian Rehm) of Henning, Chuck (and Paula) Wilson of Appleton, Charlene (and Randy) Witt of Parkers Prairie; five grandchildren; and siblings: Richard (and Marlys) Webber of Albert Lea, Fern Niehman of Fairfield, Calif., and Betty Rand of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepparents; two stepsisters; four sisters and four brothers.
