CLARKFIELD -- Edward Tosten Johnson, 86, of Clarkfield died Monday in Montevideo.

There is no service. His remains will be scattered in Oak Creek Canyon, Ariz.

Memorials are requested to Clarkfield Lutheran Church or the Valhalla Senior Apartments in Clarkfield.

He was born to Basil and Geneva Johnson. He grew up in Clarkfield where he graduated in 1938 from Clarkfield High School. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946 as a medical lab technician. He trained in Hot Springs, Ark., and was stationed at Camp Gordon in Johnston, Fla.

He married Violet Mitchell in September 1949 in Arkansas. They lived in Phoenix, Ariz. He worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 32 years. He was divorced in 1977. He returned to Clarkfield in 1983 to care for his parents.

He is survived by three children: Tom Johnson of Beaverton, Ore., Susan Johnson of Hilo, Hawaii, and Sarah Ringe of Show Low, Ariz.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother: Mentor (and Donna) Johnson of Burnsville; and sisters: Burnett Aase of Madison, Myrtle (and Richard) Osmundson of East Grand Forks, Orda Reiten of Minnetonka and Virginia Johnson of Hopkins.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers.
