BROOTEN -- Edwin Eskelson, 72, of Brooten died Sunday at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten. Memorials are preferred to the St. Cloud Heart Center and Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten.

He was born July 7, 1934, in Glenwood to Edwin and Cora (Kittleson) Eskelson. He grew up in Terrace and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1952. He entered the U.S. Air Force in Sumter, S.C., in 1955. He was honorably discharged in 1959.

He married Eileen Sagedahl on Aug. 26, 1956, in Brooten. He was a computer programmer who managed the computer operations area for Erie Mining in Hoyt Lakes. He relocated several times with the mining company and worked in Cleveland, Ohio, and Minneapolis. He managed the programming area for Fingerhut Corporation in St. Cloud from 1966 to 1975. He worked for Hibbing Taconite from 1975 to 1981, and then worked for Hoyt Lakes from 1981 to 1992. He was the administrative coordinator for LTV Mining from 1992 to 1995, when he retired, due to his health. They returned to Brooten in 2005.

He is survived by his wife; three sons: Todd (and Renee) of Cold Spring, Timothy (and Robbie) of Chisholm, Jeffery (and Charlene) of Antelope, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister: Carol Trustheim of Cary, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather: Melvin Peterson; and one brother.
