APPLETON -- Edythe Dora Ashburn Banken, 89, of Appleton died Friday at the Appleton Hospital.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. Burial will be at the Granite Falls City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in Appleton, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church in Granite Falls on Friday. Arrangements are with Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls.
She was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Wawbeck, Saskatchewan, to Milton and Sarah (Stanfield) Vesey. They moved to Minneapolis when she was four. She attended Miller Vocational School and studied junior nursing.

She married Roy Ashburn on Oct. 3, 1933, in Milbank, S.D. They lived in Louriston Township, Clara City, Maynard, and rural areas of Sacred Heart and Granite Falls. She assisted with the farm work and dairy cattle. They retired from farming in 1964. Roy died in 1983.
She married Raymond Banken on April 8, 1988, in Appleton. They lived in Appleton and summered at Lake Miltona.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Maynard and taught Sunday school for 14 years, served as an elder and belonged to the Presbyterian Ladies Aide and also was a leader for the Granite Falls Junior High Campfire Girls.
She is survived by her children: JayNell (and Pat) Ashburn, Jerome (and Molly) Ashburn, all of Sacred Heart, Judy Benson (and Belwin Rode), Joy (and Dean) Halvorson, all of Granite Falls; four stepchildren: Steve (and Joan) Banken of Morris, Jeff (and Kim) Banken of Chaska, Ed (and Faith) Banken of Morris, Bea (and Dave) Telford of Appleton; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister: Lucille Groff of Meridian, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Roy; daughter-in-law: Muriel, son-in-law: Joe Benson; two sisters and two brothers.
